What We Do at Calvary

Our ministry at Calvary is best summed up in the words of our Mission Statement, which says: Empowered by the Holy Spirit: the congregation of Calvary Lutheran Church is passionately committed to:

KNOW GOD AND PROCLAIM HIS WORD

ACT AS LIVING WITNESSES IN OUR COMMUNITY

PROVIDE OPPORTUNITY FOR CHRISTIAN GROWTH THROUGH THE STUDY OF GOD'S WORD AND PRAYER LIFE

BE VISIBLE THROUGH CARING, FOREGIVENESS AND SERVICE TO ALL

One of the most important aspects of our life together is regularly gathering around Word and Sacrament for Worship. Our Sunday worship is at 10:30 a.m. We plan to continue a Contemporary service at 8:15 a.m. in the near future. In addition to professional staff, our members are encouraged to be directly involved in Worship leadership as assisting ministers, lectors, cantors, acolytes, ushers and greeters. Periodic training sessions prepare members for these service opportunities. The Altar Guild provides support for all our worship services.

The Sunday Christian Education Program at 9:15 a.m. provides classes for all ages from 3 to 103+, Vacation Bible School is held annually each summer. Dedicated teachers use curriculum that is Biblically and educationally sound. There is a class for everyone at Calvary.

We are blessed by providing a church home for the many Goodfellow AFB personnel who are in San Angelo for a brief tour of duty, and also for the ASU and Howard College students while they are attending school here.

Calvary supports several ecumenical ministries including United Campus Ministry (an on campus house at ASU), Rebuilding Together, March of Dimes, Crop Walk, the CPS Rainbow Room and Project Dignidad (a food pantry for San Angelo's hungry). Calvary is active in the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans local board, helping the community through funding and hands on work, such as Thrivent Builds and Join Hands Day projects.

Opportunities and activities are planned throughout the year to provide times to share fellowship and service among the members of Calvary. Women of the ELCA sponsor two monthly Bible studies, a "secret sister" program, and participate in conference and synod functions. Our monthly church calendar can be found on the church website at
http://calvarysa.org/.

Women of the congregation maintain a prayer chain in which special needs of members and friends are taken to GOD in prayer.

Fellowship over refreshments follows the Worship service. On months with 5 Sundays we have a potluck meal after the service. Visitors are most welcome to stay and eat with us.

Three active youth groups: 1st-5th grade, 6th-8th grade, Senior High Youth (9th-12th grade), meet regularly each month.

Various adult groups meet for different activities throughout the year, including Women of the ELCA on the second Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. for Bible study. A Men's Fellowship Breakfast meets on the third Saturday at 7:30 a.m.

Confirmation instruction is available for people of all ages. The Junior High Faith Inkubators meet Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings at the church.

God has gifted you through the Holy Spirit to be a faithful member of His body, the Church. We want to support that gift, as we are able.

We believe that God Himself sent every person who comes into the circle of this special fellowship. It's not by accident that we have the joy of meeting you. So above all else, we want to express Christ's love to you with genuine heartfelt warmth. We're eager to know you and we're excited to share with you the marvelous ways God is working in our church. It won't take you long to discover that this is truly a family, rich in the relationships that matter most. Growing together, we worship, we serve, we laugh, we cry, we learn, and we reach out to the world with life transforming truth. We reach out to you as well. If you've been thinking, praying, searching and hoping for a place to belong, we again say:

WELCOME!
